2013 Iowa Truck Driving Championships Results

The 2013 Iowa Truck Driving Championships were held June 13th and 14th at the Prairie Meadows Racetrack
and Casino Hotel in Altoona, Iowa. This year, 111 drivers represented the state of Iowa in this showcase
industry event. All qualified drivers were tested in four areas: pre-trip vehicle inspection, written examination,
personal interview, and driving skills.
To qualify, participating drivers must be accident free for the previous 12 months, meet all DOT physical
requirements, be employed by only one employer 12 months prior to the event, and represent the state in
which they reside or are domiciled. Qualifying drivers must also posses an outstanding attitude and have
illustrated a commitment and dedication to safety.
Drivers can pick from eight classes of competition including: 3 axle van, 4 axle van, 5 axle van, flatbed,
straight truck, twin trailers, tank, and sleeper berth.
Decker Truck Line, Inc was honored this year with having drivers Dean Filmer and Ben Eby participated
in this event. Dean Filmer competed in the Sleeper Class Division and Ben Eby in the Straight Truck Division.
Special recognition goes to Dean Filmer who placed 3rd out of 19 drivers competing in the Sleeper
The Iowa Truck Driving Championships celebrate the important role the professional truck driver plays to
the economy of his state and nation. The championships are sponsored by the Iowa Motor Truck Association
and the Iowa Council of Safety Management. The IMTA represents the trucking industry interests in
the state of Iowa and is located in Des Moines.
